‘Polaris.
Summer 2009’ is the outcome of the first of the two-stage
project Polaris, realized during a Polar expedition organized by the
Geophysics Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences
at Horsund polar base
in Spitzbergen in summer 2009. In his work, Bakowski made use of a bear
disguise traditionally used in
folk rituals in the south-west of Poland.
The performance and at the same time
photographic session took place at
night time the polar day.
The photograph shows the participiant of the expedition dressed in the
life suit and the mask of the bear holding a signal flashlight
lamp
illuminating the Polar Star, Polaris, in the sky...
