LambdaPrint on Kodak Duratrans mounted in light box, 47 x 38 x 6,5 in, 2009

‘Polaris. Summer 2009’ is the outcome of the first of the two-stage project Polaris, realized during a Polar expedition organized by the Geophysics Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences at Horsund polar base
in Spitzbergen in summer 2009. In his work, Bakowski made use of a bear disguise traditionally used in folk rituals in the south-west of Poland.

The performance and at the same time photographic session took place at night time the polar day.
The photograph shows a biologist Zuzanna Luks dressed in the Helly Hansen life suit and the mask of the bear holding a signal flashlight lamp illuminating the Polar Star, Polaris, in the sky.
