‘Polaris.
Summer 2009’ is the outcome of the first of the two-stage
project Polaris, realized during a Polar expedition organized by the
Geophysics Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences
at Horsund polar base
in Spitzbergen in summer 2009. In his work, Bakowski made use of a bear
disguise traditionally used in
folk rituals in the south-west of Poland.
The performance and at the same time
photographic session took place at
night time the polar day.
The photograph shows a biologist Zuzanna Luks dressed in the Helly
Hansen life suit and the mask of the bear holding a signal flashlight
lamp
illuminating the Polar Star, Polaris, in the sky...
